The band is very humbled by the following venue feedback!
The Blue Mosquitoes were a true breath of fresh air.Never before has a band so deserved a comparison to the Pied Piper of Hamlin - they quite literally control you with their music. With apparently very little effort, they can make you laugh, cry or dance until your feet bleed, and there is nothing you can do about it.From the moment The Blue Mosquitoes walked on to the stage, the crowd was hooked; on every note, every word, every melody, every song. The quality of musicianship is absolutely first rate, the original songs are well crafted and delivered with real feeling, and the vocal haunting, soulful, emotional and pure. Despite being road weary, and the fact that the bands schedule meant they had an unflattering time slot, they put on one hell of a show, that will be talked about for years to come. Would we have them back...?In a heartbeat. Darren, Event Organiser, Woolley Festival As far as a review goes i am not sure that i could really put into words how much we enjoyed the gig, to reduce a blues sun eve crowd to silence is a feet achieved by few and tears at songs are few and far between! then to build the evening up to a toe tapping, leg shaking end was amazing. a return from this band would be most welcome. Simon Colgan, Events Manager, Blues Bar, England The Blue Mosquitoes are simply amazing. Not only are they great artists but even at their young age they are real professionals. It was a pleasure to work with them. Mixing the band was so easy and flawless. George Yankov, Live Sound Engineer, Ram Jam Club, England The Blue Mosquitoes were, without caveat, one of the high points of Wheal Dream Folk's year. Superb musicianship and fabulous singing crafted in the highest level of professionalism, a joy to hear. They also had the fortunate hapenstance of being really nice people. I would have them at the club again without hesitation Wheal Dream Folk Club, Helston, Cornwall, England Returned from Woolley Festival feeling a bit dazed, confused and extremely tired after volunteering as a steward for the weekend. Before I catch up on some seriously needed sleep I had to share something (and no, I am not being paid to promote this band in any way). It was a great weekend with loads of local folk and rock talent on display. But the highlight of the weekend for me was hearing The Blue Mosquitoes play live. Fantastic vocals, great original lyrics and they can all really play their instruments. The lead singer and violinist Hannah Foley actually made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and as their website says they are a meeting of The Cranberries and the Pogues. The Blue Mosquitoes are a band all the way from Tasmania and are halfway through their UK & Ireland 2011 Tour and if you are lucky enough for them to be performing near you go and see them play. Tickets will be stupidly cheap and I highly recommend you go and hear them live as the quality of the recordings on their website do not do them justice at all. The band had first slot and were playing to a half-empty tent as the festival goers had mostly not arrived at the time, which I thought was both a crying shame and a great honour for the few of us that were there. The Blue Mosquitoes should be playing to a much larger audience. Every track on their début album paper boats is fantastic and it was the only album I bought at the festival. They are definitely a band to watch out for in the future! Dan Fletcher, Independent Journalist and Author, England It was a pleasure to meet, hear and watch The Blue Mosquitoes when they played here at the Grey Horse/Ram Jam Club. When you are surrounded by live music day in, day out, as I am, it is refreshing to hear such enthusiasm from a band of youngsters who are obviously enjoying what they do - and so good at what they do. A lot of people have asked when they are returning to the UK so it will be great to see them back here one day. Just let me know when. Richard Fletcher, Ram Jam Club, Richmond, London, England We took a punt on this one. They looked pretty good on MySpace and it boded well that they had the cajones to risk such a potentially disastrous tour so far from home. We were certainly rewarded in spades for our daring. Blue Mosquitoes turned out to be the most exciting band we'd booked in years and were awarded several standing ovations. Despite their youth they possessed serious charm and charisma. Their musicianship was, at points, startlingly good and their reels implausibly fast. Even at their most sentimental their self-penned songs were never mawkish though. We'd have them back in a heartbeat, if we can still afford a band that will very soon be out of our league, if they're not already. Very pleased and proud that they played our club. A truly great night was had. Dom Wills, Ritz Acoustic Club, Burnham on Sea, England We enjoyed having the BLUE MOSQUITOES at the Hunters Inn back in July and look forward to your return! A very talented bunch appreciated by all! Sally Dallyn, Event Manager, The Hunters Inn, North Devon, England Just to say we saw your set down at Hunters Inn the other night and you were brilliant. Great to see young and accomplished musicians taking a different path to the other well-trodden ones. Keep at it guys. Mark & Helen Asher, England The Blue Mosquitoes performances at our annual Clovelly Maritime Festival in July was hugely enjoyed by the visitors on the day; a very talented and surprisingly youthful, but professional band who sang and played with great passion and vibrancy. We would love to have them come back to perform at one of our annual events again. Sue Haworth, Event Manager, Clovelly, North Devon, England I just want to say, as you know Kit and I have been running clubs for a very long time in the early seventies we booked a up and coming band called the Tannahill Weavers that nobody had ever heard of down here and we had a night to remember of really good players. You wouldn't believe that this is the first time since then that its has been so feckin spectacular. Niall Timmins, Wheal Dream Folk Club, Helston, Cornwall, England It (isn't) easy finding the words to describe the wonderful performance the band gave us. Sean Graham, Organiser, Portstewart Festival, Northern Ireland The Blue Mosquitoes are a hugely energetic, talented and original young band from Tasmania. They play a wide range of music, from original songs to traditional tunes - all interpreted in their own unique fashion. Their music is contemporary with a Celtic undercurrent, taking the audience on an emotional journey, from aching ballads through soulful reflections to frenetic foot-stomping jigs. With exquisitely versatile vocals, instrumental alacrity and an infectious passion for music, this is a band not to be missed. Anne McCarthy, Mayo County Council, Ireland Just to say we saw your set down at Hunters Inn the other night and you were brilliant. Great to see young and accomplished musicians taking a different path to the other well-trodden ones. Keep at it guys. Mark & Helen Asher, England The Blue Mosquitos bubble with the possibilities of youth & ancient musics...................... from ballad to stomp they provide genuine thrills& joy @ the power of it all..............their dives in 2 the "Folk Pool" are deep & all embracing........ Grant Cunliffe aka dJ Wombat., Inspiral, Camdon, London, England "Blown away by the whole package. Fabulous musicians, talent and songs. Professional, will be the next big thing. Talent which outdoes their youth." Michael Byrne, Athlone, Ireland, Audience member "The Blue Mosquitoes have developed into a top stage act. Great musical values meet great stage craft. The audience went wild at their Cygnet Folk Festival C.D. launch and their new C.D. 'Paper Boats' has been selling like hotcakes. Brilliant!" Steve Gadd, Cygnet Folk Festival director 2011 "I really enjoyed the music and the vibe at the launch; those young guys are sensational, I have been singing their praises to many. I hope they have a successful tour and I'm sure this is the beginning of a great career in music" Teresa Beck Swindale (Regional Touring Officer, Tasmanian Regional Arts) Folk Orbit (UK Folk Website) - Brilliant! - The Blue Mosquitoes can be very proud to make their first CD ‘Paper Boats’ such an accomplished work. Their self penned songs flavoured with Irish Folk Music all blend into a delightful listening experience. This young Australian Folk Band from Hobart can’t fail to hide their ancestral love of the Celtic Music. Their energy and soulfulness flows seamlessly throughout this delightfully produced album. Steve Gadd, Director of The Cygnet Folk Festival writes: "I am delighted to be able to offer this reference for the Blue Mosquitoes. Still a young band the Blue Mosquitoes have already had several years experience working at a very professional level. Beginning as a group immersed in Celtic traditional music and folk influenced pop they have expanded their repertoire with a body of powerful original ballads and instrumentals inspired by the history and landscape of their island home of Tasmania. These are stunning compositions which convey also the vocal and instrumental skills of the band members. Their music is engaging and works well at concerts in which the audience desires to really listen on the other hand they can kick out very danceable grooves." The series attracts a knowledgeable audience with diverse musical tastes. The Blue Mosquitoes made a terrific contribution to the 2010 program, with the audience enjoying the musical skill and vitality of these talented young musicians. The group delivered a mix of originals and covers drawing on contemporary Irish folk and Americana influences. We are very pleased to invite the group back into our 2011 program and are proud to be part of this talented young group’s continuing development.” Dane Hunnerup, Irish Murphys Booking Agent Hobart writes: "I am writing in my capacity as booking agent for Irish Murphy's Hobart. I've been following the development of Tasmanian original folk band The Blue Mosquitoes for several years now. Starting out as a child band busking at the markets, we eventually began hiring them for our St Patrick's Day celebrations. From there they have become one of our regular rotating bands in the Irish Murphy's fold. We're always delighted to have The Blue Mosquitoes on our bill. They always pull a crowd and their professionalism as a band is great to work with. I'm happy to endorse any project that they would approach with full confidence that they have the momentum, the songs and the presence to go a long way. I wish them the best with their endeavors and should you wish to discuss them with me I'm happy to do so on my contacts below." This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Blue Mosquitoes have performed on a number of occasions at The Republic Bar and perform with energy and commitment. They have provided support to significant artists such as the Saw Doctors and Nicholas Roy on busy Saturday nights. Their original material works well with the crowd and they have people up dancing and enjoying the experience. The Republic Bar can vouch for the professionalism of The Blue Mosquitoes both on and off stage. They have always been punctual, quick to set up, and engage the audience.
